Some of my favorite memories are when I spent afternoons with my grandfather while he drove around his orchard checking on his crew and fixing things that needed his attention. If I was lucky, he’d let me watch as he welded on farming implements or repaired some other piece of machinery. If he didn’t have what he needed, or couldn’t afford it, he’d build it himself out of the spare parts he had on the farm. He passed years ago but I’ll always remember his ability to be innovative and creative, and in this case back sometime in the 1960’s, built a front wheel drive, rear wheel steering, off-road forklift that we could drive just about anywhere on the farm. Cheers to the innovators out there!
